With Bibliography and indices and with illustrations in the text.During the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, I sifted through the mass of documents attempting to write a detailed history of events concerning the ‘Nicole’ companies. Both Frank Andrews and I worked on a number of re-writes of the draft manuscript, attempting to make a readable narrative of events from the collected documents, supplemented by information gleaned from a variety of music and talking machine trade journals.
The narrative of the corporate history of the various ‘Nicole’ concerns is both complex and confusing, with many aspects that could not be resolved due to lack of onward information. The history of the ‘Nicole’ companies as presented here, is a concise narrative of events of almost one hundred years of activity, tracing the beginning of Nicole Frères at Geneva in 1815 to the closure of The Disc Record Company, Ltd., in 1915.
